For starters, the local phone provider must be contacted and a second line installed. With the fax line in place, a telephone cable must run from the wall jack into the fax machine. Once the equipment is set it is possible to receive faxes.

Often time a cover page is used, in which the sender, recipient and number of included pages is placed at the front of the fax. Once in place, the full telephone number of the recipient, including area code, must be included. With this in place, the user must then push the send button to submit the fax.
